This old map of the northern part of Scandinavia and the Scandinavian Peninsula, including the whole of northern Norrland and Lapland, was published in 1626 by Anders Bure (1571-1646). Bure was a man from Säbrå parish who was knighted in 1624 and would come to be known as The father of Swedish cartography. In 1628 Anders Bure was appointed general mathematics and was the one who laid the foundation for the Swedish cadastral survey.
This map forms the northern part of his large map series Orbis arctoi covering the whole of the Nordic countries (except Iceland), the Baltic States and Western Russia. The map was engraved in six sheets measuring 160×150 cm and has been used as a basis for cartographers until 1936.
