A beautiful, historical map of Kronoberg County, published in the late 17th century in a colourful series with other general maps. The map covers the whole of the historic county of Värend, which at the latest in the 13th century was divided into five districts: Allbo district, Kinnevald district, Konga district, Norrvidinge district and Uppvidinge district. The map also shows the western part of the Sunnerbo härad, which belongs to the Finnveden region.
Kronoberg County, or Värend, was a central scene of the Dackefejden 1542-1543, when Småland peasants, among others, rose up and fought for their freedom and rights against an oppressive Swedish central power. They succeeded in reaching a peace settlement with Gustav Vasa, and the rebel leader Nils Dacke celebrated Christmas at Kronoberg Castle in Växjö.
