Allmogen goes on expedition - The witch trial in Torsåker

On the anniversary of the witch trial in Torsåker in 1675 Allmogen in the footsteps of the victims. This is the very first EXPEDITION ALLMOGEN.
On 1 June 1675, 71 people were murdered in Torsåker, Ångermanland, on a mountain that has since been called Häxberget or Bålberget. 65 women, 2 men and 4 boys were beheaded, one by one, and their bodies were burned on three pyres that had been prepared - one for each parish. (Some sources state that 9 were executed already on 28 March and the remaining 62 on 1 June.)
The witch trial in Torsåker, which I have written about before, was the biggest witch trial of the witch hysteria The big noise which took place in Sweden in 1668-1676. Every fifth woman in Torsåker, Dal and Ytterlännäs parishes were murdered on this day 343 years ago. It is a story of mass hysteria, grave superstition and an oppressive, power-crazed ruler.
In the video you can follow me to the cellar vaults in Hammar where the women were held, to the incomparably beautiful Torsåkers church where the victims received their death sentence and final sermon from the priest Laurentius Hornaeus, and to the mountain where their lives were taken from them. The memorial stone erected in 1975 reads:
Here burned witch fire 1675Women died. Men died.The faith of the age affects man.
In my analysis, the line of conflict here is not between women and menbut between allmoge and supervisor. Ordinary common people died and ordinary common people had their daughters, sisters, wives and mothers torn from them by a totalitarian priesthood.
Allmoge dog. The superior judged. But one thing is certain: The faith of the age affects man. So also in our time.

Interesting site you have created. Feels good that there are more people than me with these opinions. I'm from Ångermanland and have been up on "häxberget" many times.
I have also reacted to the lack of history represented by the text on the stone. It is difficult today, with most people's lack of understanding of how the country was governed and the power of religion at the time, to make an adequate analysis of the past.
I myself have been influenced by the myth of the "red river valley" but after many years I have come to realise how little has been done in the country to influence its future.
Now living in Stockholm but very interested in the future of the whole country.
