Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlöf is one of Sweden's most prominent writers of all time. She was 33 years old when her debut novel Gösta Berling's Saga was published in 1891. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909. Lagerlöf was the first woman in the Swedish Academy and the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. She was also one of the original members of the Society of the Nine.
